Ford 2600 Restoration

The story of our Ford 2600,  is steeped in local Killarney history. Back in 1979, The Great Southern Hotel in Killarney bought a Ford 2600 tractor from Jimmy the masters, which was one of three sold at that time.

The hotel primarily used a trailer onto the tractor which was used for carting goods from the train to the hotel. In 2007 the hotel sold the tractor as works were contracted out.

Then local tractor collector and parts specialist Colm Clifford had the Ford 2600 and gave the tractor a fresh coat of paint.

At the start of 2019 Killarney valley classic and vintage club bought the tractor to raffle it off on Saturday 16th of November as part of one annual fundraising projects. This is the third project for the club and to date have raised over €100,000 with the previous two projects. The chosen charities this year are “ACT for Meningitis” and “Killarney micro track”

Our members have put a few finishing touches to the tractor in their clubhouse on the regular Thursday night meetups, including a full set of new tyres from kindly sponsored by Castleisland tyre centre.

This Ford 2600 is a very original tractor in showroom condition with exceptionally low hours on the clock and from our information, the PTO was hardly ever used on it.

Tickets can be bought online and from many shows, the tractor will be attending including the car show at the racecourse Killarney on the 21st of July and from our charities websites.

The first year we restored an MF135 which was a huge success both from a restoration point of view and the charities that benefitted. Last year’s project was an even bigger challenge where we did a complete rebuild of a Land Rover 90.

To date, there’s over €100,000 raised between the two projects. We’re even more excited about this one as it has a fabulous history with the Great Southern Hotel.
